The place

A friendly little corner in the middle of the tourist crush

Escudellers is one of the busiest streets in the old city. Nix is the calm bit: nine tables, checkerboard tiles, a small bar and a kitchen that cooks everything to order rather than reheating it.

You will be greeted in English, told honestly what is best today, and handed a menu that mixes Spanish classics — paella, pulpo, bravas, jamón — with Italian-leaning plates like burrata and focaccia sandwiches. Nobody will rush you out.

  • Paella and rice dishes cooked fresh, about 25 minutes
  • Vegetarian tapas and gluten-free options on request
  • Signature cocktails, natural wines and jugs of sangria
  • Late kitchen — food served right up to midnight

In the kitchen

Chopped, cooked and plated while you wait

No microwaves, no pre-plated trays. Everything is prepared to order in a tiny open kitchen a few steps from your table — that's why the paella takes 25 minutes, and why it tastes like it should.

We tried several tapas and they were all delicious — especially the canelones de pollo. Very relaxing atmosphere, not too quiet and not too loud.

Amazing food and service! We had some tapas and paella — all incredibly good. We're so happy we picked this place for our last meal in Barcelona. 10/10.

Wanted to go to a place nearby but the queue was too long. A few steps further I found this little gem. The paella with pulpo was delicious.

We loved this tapas place. So much that we came back twice during our short city break. The set menu is great value.
